Internet Safety in Virginia – Are your kids safe online?
Internet Safety has been and will be a continued concern of all educators and school divisions for students and teachers alike. I haven’t wrote on this topic yet but it is another part of my job in my school division. Virginia schools had to develop Internet Safety plans and implement those plans this past year. This fall, those plans were approved or not approved by our state board of education. I am happy to say our’s was approved. However, it is so very hard to create a plan and get it implemented all by yourself. With the help of a group of educators from one of our local technology consortiums, many Southside Virginia school divisions were able to create plans, timelines, curriculum and lists of resources to help us in this endeavor.
Why is Internet Safety so important that Virginia adopted legislation to require school divisions to develop plans and implementation procedures? If you don’t know the answer to that already then your eyes need to be opened up to what is going on out there with our students and even our teachers.
